COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 3-ranked University of Missouri wrestling team overwhelmed Air Force, 38-3, on Sunday, Dec. 17, in front of 2,439 fans at Hearnes Center. The Tigers improved to 4-0 (3-0, Big 12), while the Falcons fell to 2-2 (0-2, Big 12).

Mizzou used eight bonus-point victories to outlast Air Force, starting off with a (10) Noah Surtin technical fall at 125, his sixth bonus-point win of the year. At 133, Kade Moore stepped in to claim his first bonus-point victory in a dual this season, taking down Gavin Caprella, 12-3. After (20) Josh Edmond‘s decision at 141 and (22) Logon Gioffre‘s major at 149, the Tigers had a commanding 16-0 lead. Then, (9) Brock Mauller gave the Tigers their second tech fall of the afternoon at 157, pushing MU’s lead to 21-0 heading to the break.

A high-scoring affair ensued at 165, as (1) Keegan O’Toole earned a major decision, 24-12. The bonus-point victory was his eighth of the year in eight matches. At 174, (9) Peyton Mocco gave Missouri its third tech fall of the afternoon, stretching the Tiger lead to 30-0. After a tough-fought sudden victory loss at 184, Mizzou claimed the last two matches of the dual, capped off by Zach Elam‘s 10th bonus-point victory of the season.

MATCH NOTES

  • Mizzou remains perfect against Air Force, improving to 3-0 all-time. Overall, the Tigers have outscored the Falcons 113-15 in three meetings.
  • Surtin’s technical fall over (30) Tucker Owens is his sixth bonus-point win this season.
  • Moore earned his first bonus-point win in a dual this season.
  • O’Toole kept his bonus-point streak alive, getting his eighth such victory in eight matches this season.
  • Over his last four matches, Mocco has now taken three technical falls and a pin.
  • Z. Elam improved to 12-0 after his 10th bonus-point victory of the season this afternoon.

UP NEXT

The Tigers cap off 2023 with a trip to St. Louis to face off against longtime rivals Illinois on Dec. 21. The first matchup from inside the Stifel Theatre is slated to begin at 7 p.m. and will be on UFC Fight Pass.
