No. 25 Tigers Sweep Texas A&M on Senior Day

Alexis Burks vs Texas A&M

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 25 Missouri softball (32-17, 11-9 SEC) took the final game of the series over Texas A&M (27-21, 5-16) to sweep the series on Senior Day. After trailing early, the Tigers put up eight runs in the bottom of the third with four hits and seven free passes.

RECAP

The Aggies jumped ahead in the first inning. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with nobody out before a groundout to the pitcher put Texas A&M in front. Then, Herzog singled to center to make it 2-0 for the visitors. Casidy Chaumont prevented any further damage after she threw out a runner that was attempting to tag up from third on a shallow fly ball.

Mizzou got on the board in the bottom of the second. Alex Honnold led off the inning with a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead in half. The Aggies got the run back on a Haley Lee solo homer to lead off the third.

The momentum shifted in the bottom of the third. Jenna Laird laced a one-out double down the left field line to get the rally started. She moved over to third on a wild pitch and Brooke Wilmes walked to put two runners on. Kendyll Bailey executed a perfect squeeze play to bring in Jenna Laird, cutting the lead to just one. After Wert was hit by a pitch, Honnold walked to tie the game at three. With the bases still loaded, Casidy Chaumont ripped a two-run single into center to give the Tigers their first lead of the day.

After a pitching change, the rally continued. Kara Daly reached on an infield single to load the bases back up. A wild pitch brought Honnold home and the late throw got away from the pitcher to allow Casidy Chaumont to cross the plate as well. Leading 7-3, Emma Raabe drew a walk and Jenna Laird was hit by a pitch to load the bases once again. A passed ball allowed Kara Daly to put another run on the board before back-to-back walks to Wilmes and Bailey made it a 9-3 ballgame.

The Aggies responded with three runs in the top of the fourth. With two outs and two on, Wooley tripled to right center, putting the score at 9-5. After Lee walked, Smith singled through the left side to cut the Tigers’ lead to three. Schumacher struck out Dack to strand the runners.

Alex Honnold started the home half with a double to center on the first pitch. Chaumont and Daly then walked to load the bases and Emma Raabe brought in two runs with a single to center.

To lead off the top of the sixth inning, Alexis Burks entered as a pinch hitter and after falling behind in the count, she battled back and knocked a single back up the middle for the second hit of her career. The Tigers ran into trouble in the top half of the third with two runners reaching with only one out. Laurin Krings entered and struck out each batter that she faced to close it out.
