No. 24/23 Softball Split Second Day of Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invitational

NCAA SB: Mizzou Tigers vs. Bradley

TULSA, Okla. – The No. 24/23 University of Missouri Softball program (14-6) split its second day at the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invitational Saturday at the Collins Family Softball Complex. The Tigers picked up a 10-0 run-rule victory over Maine (4-8) before falling to Tulsa, 6-5. 

No. 24/23 Missouri 10, Maine 0 – Five Innings 

Megan Schumacher registered a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit as the Tigers compiled 10 runs on nine hits for the run-rule win over Maine Saturday afternoon.

Schumacher, a senior from East Fishkill, New York, made her first start of the 2023 campaign, tallying two strikeouts. 

After a scoreless opening two innings, Missouri scored 10 runs (one in the third, three in the fourth and six in the fifth) over the final three innings. 

Megan Moll scored on a RBI groundout from Jenna Laird in the third for the initial Mizzou lead. Moll earned a walk before advancing to second on a wild pitch and moving to third on a groundout. 

Chantice Phillips then brought Kara Daly home on a Black Bear throwing error. Daly singled through the left side before Phillips advanced all the way to third on the Maine miscue. 

Maddie Gallagher then singled home Phillips for a 3-0 lead. 

Katie Chester added a solo home run to push the margin to 4-0.

The Tigers sealed the victory with a six-run fifth. Julia Crenshaw knocked a one-out single before a Riley Frizell walk. 

Daly followed with a RBI single before a Phillips sacrifice fly increased the edge to 6-0.

Gallagher added a RBI single to center. Chester then reached on an error and Moll posted a walk.

Maddie Snider then blasted a triple to left center to score a trio of Tigers and widen the gap to 10-0. 

NOTES

  • Maddie Gallagher led the Tigers with a career-best matching three hits (3-for-3) and season-high two RBI. She registered three hits twice at South Carolina before transferring to Missouri. 
  • Julia Crenshaw and Kara Daly (career-best matching) each added two hits.
  • Maddie Snider compiled a career-best tying three RBI on her first career triple. She has tallied three RBI in each of the two Tiger games against Maine this weekend. 
  • Katie Chester hit her second career home run in the win with two runs scored (career-best matching).
  • Julia Crenshaw stole a career high two bases. 
  • Megan Moll walked twice (career-best matching).

No. 24/23 Missouri 5, Tulsa 6

In the second game Saturday, Missouri fell to Tulsa, 6-5, in a back-and-forth affair. 

Leading 5-4 in the seventh, the Golden Hurricane captured the walk off in the bottom half of the inning. 

Kara Daly blasted her second home run of the game to right to provide the Tigers a 5-4 edge heading to the home side of the seventh. 

Celeste Wood opened the inning with a single before Kailyn Bearpaw reached on an error and Claira Skaggs added a base hit to load the bases.

Abby Jones then singled down the right field line to complete the comeback, 6-5

The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead before the Golden Hurricane evened the game at 3-3. 

Daly notched her first homer of the contest in the third, a two-run shot to left that cleared the street behind Collins Family Softball Complex. 

Jenna Laird then singled to score catcher Addie Lange in the fourth. 

Tulsa then evened the contest at 3-3 in its half of the fourth. Rylee Keith notched a RBI double before Kylee Nash chipped in a two-run double to make it all square.

Chantice Phillips compiled a RBI single through the left side of the infield to score Daly as Mizzou retook the lead, 4-3. 

Haley Morgan then advanced a Tulsa runner home on a foul out to left to retie the game at 4-4 in the sixth. 

NOTES

  • Kara Daly (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Jenna Laird (2-for-4, RBI) each led the Tigers hitting, with two hits each. 
  • Kara Daly belted two home runs in a game for the second time in her career as a Tiger. She also tallied three RBI and two hits with a walk. 
  • Julia Crenshaw, Katie Chester, and Chantice Phillips each had a hit in the game. 
  • Katie Chester hit her second career double. 
  • Jordan Weber started for the Tigers, allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and a strikeout in the no decision. 
  • Cierra Harrison came on in relief, holding the Golden Hurricane to a run on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk. 
  • Laurin Krings was assessed the loss, allowing one earned run (two runs) on three hits (0.2 innings).
