No. 24/21 Softball Falls to Oregon State Friday

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Oregon State (6-6) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge No. 24/21 Missouri Softball (11-3), 3-2, Friday at the Mary Nutter Cathedral City Collegiate Classic.

Trailing a run, 2-1, the Beavers put runners at first and second with consecutive base hits by Eliana Gottlieb and Des Rivera in the seventh. The duo then moved into scoring position after a passed ball.

Madyson Clark then earned a walk to load the bases as Oregon State evened the contest at 2-2 with a RBI groundout from Abby Doerr.

Morgan Howey then knocked a RBI single to right to complete the walk-off win for OSU. 

The Tigers took a 2-0 advantage with runs in the fourth and fifth.

Alex Honnold led off the fourth frame with a triple to right and touched home on a Julia Crenshaw RBI double to right center. 

In the following inning, Riley Frizell commenced the fifth with a triple before tagging home on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly from Kelsee Mortimer to increase the Mizzou lead to 2-0. 

Laurin Krings was assessed the loss, allowing all three Beaver runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. 

Sarah Haendiges picked up the win for Oregon State, letting up two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks in the complete game.

NOTES

  • Julia Crenshaw led the Tigers, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a RBI. She registered a career-best two doubles.
  • Alex Honnold, Riley Frizell, Addie Lange, and Maddie Snider each added hits. 
  • For Addie Lange, the hit is the fourth in her career at Missouri.
  • For Riley Frizell, the triple is the first in her career as a Tiger. 
  • The RBI was the first for Kelsee Mortimer in 2023.
  • The loss is just the third for Missouri in 2023 and halts an eight-game win streak.

  • The Tigers wrap the Mary Nutter Cathedral City Collegiate Classic Saturday against No. 22/24 Oregon (2:30 p.m., CT) and Long Beach State (7:30 p.m., CT).
