No. 18/17 Tigers Host Mizzou Classic

NCAA SB: Mizzou Tigers vs. Bradley

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri softball (18-6, 0-2 SEC) will host No. 14/12 Northwestern, Stanford and Ball State for the Mizzou Classic from March 18-20. The No. 18/17 Tigers are scheduled to play five games over three days with each game streaming live on SECN+.

Mizzou returns to action after a Braggin’ Rights sweep on the road at Illinois. The Tigers took game one in extra innings after Kendyll Bailey drove in Casidy Chaumont for the game winning run in the eighth inning. Brooke Wilmes and Casidy Chaumont led the Tigers to a run-rule victory in the second game.

SCHEDULE UPDATE

Friday’s Mizzou Classic schedule has been adjusted. Ball State will face Northwestern at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon and Mizzou will take on Ball State at 4:30, following the conclusion of the first game of the day. Mizzou’s Friday game with Northwestern will not be played. The Tigers will take on the Wildcats in the previously scheduled Sunday matchup. 

THE LEADOFF

Brooke Wilmes has again put together a productive season. She homered three times over two games against Illinois, including her first career multi-home run game.

Wilmes is now among the top ten in program history in hits, runs, doubles, home runs and RBI. She is currently tied for the team lead with eight home runs.

ON THE DALY

Kara Daly has hit seven home runs over her last eight games. The freshman became the first player in program history to homer in five-straight games after her solo shot against Tennessee. She homered twice against Illinois for her first multi-home run game.

WERT ALERT

Kimberly Wert is one home run away from breaking the Mizzou all-time home run record. She is tied with Jen Bruck with 47 home runs over her career.

Wert also hit five home runs in her freshman year at Hofstra. Over her entire collegiate career she has hit 52 homers.  

CHAU-TIME

Casidy Chaumont leads the Tigers with a .423 batting average while smashing five doubles, a triple, four home runs and 17 RBI. Her slugging percentage of .788 leads the team. Chaumont has matched her career high of four RBI in a single game three times in 2022.
