No. 17 Softball Picks Up Shutout Win

Laurin Krings

FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 17 University of Missouri Softball (4-2) shut out Florida Gulf Coast (2-3) on the road by a score of 6-0. Laurin Krings and Jordan Weber combined to keep the Eagles off the board.

The Tigers started the game with three-straight walks from Brooke Wilmes, Jenna Laird and Alex Honnold to load the bases. With one out, Hatti Moore hit a fielder’s choice to shortstop who was able to get one out at second, but both Brooke Wilmes and Jenna Laird were able to score to make it 2-0 for Mizzou.

In the second inning, Mizzou put up another crooked number. With two outs and nobody on, Casidy Chaumont singled up the middle and then both Wilmes and Laird walked to load the bases for the second time in two innings. Alex Honnold was able to reach on an infield single to bring in the first run of the inning, and both Wilmes and Laird’s aggressive baserunning gave the Tigers another.

TURNING POINT

Laurin Krings continued to put up zeroes for the Tigers. In the third inning, with runners on second and third for the Eagles, Krings was able to get the next three batters without allowing a run to cross the plate.

Jordan Weber entered with one out in the bottom of the fifth. She retired all eight batters that she faced.

In the top of the seventh, Kimberly Wert put the game away for good with a two-run home run to left field, her first of the season.
