No. 13/15 Softball Takes Series Opener Friday at RV/RV South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Laurin Krings and Marissa McCann combined to shutout RV South Carolina (33-19, 8-14 SEC), 2-0, as the No. 13/15 University of Missouri softball team (38-14, 11-11 SEC) took game one of the series Friday at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.

With the win, Mizzou claimed the opener of its final regular-season SEC series. Missouri improved to 38-14 (11-11 SEC) in 2024 while the Gamecocks fell to 33-19 (8-14 SEC).

Krings pitched five scoreless innings, surrendering just three hits and a walk to go with a trio of strikeouts. She improved to 12-7 in 2024.

McCann, a freshman from Surprise, Arizona, came on for the final two frames Friday, throwing two shutout innings for her second save of the season.

Five Tigers posted hits including RBI knocks from Kara Daly and Katie Chester.

Mizzou jumped out to a 1-0 advantage on an RBI single from Daly in the fourth. Julia Crenshaw knocked a two-out double to left center before coming home on Daly’s base hit.

Daly moved to third on the play, advancing to second on the throw before taking the final bag before home on an error.

The Tigers then increased their lead to 2-0 on an RBI pinch hit single from Chester. Chester connected with a base hit down the left field line in the sixth to plate pinch runner Danielle Blackstun.

  • Friday’s win marked Mizzou’s third SEC shutout of the season (10 overall).
  • Mizzou leads the all-time series with South Carolina, 15-9.
  • Head coach Larissa Anderson is 9-4 against the Gamecocks in her career.

LOOKING AHEAD

  • Mizzou continue its weekend series at South Carolina Saturday. Updated first pitch is now 11 a.m., CT. The Tigers conclude the series Sunday at 2 p.m., CT in Columbia, South Carolina.
  • The Tigers then look to postseason play, beginning with the 2024 SEC Tournament, which is slated for May 7-11 in Auburn, Alabama.
