No. 11 Gymnastics Heads to North Carolina for NCAA Regional Action

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 11 University of Missouri gymnastics travels to Raleigh, N.C., to compete in the 2022 NCAA Raleigh Regional Second Round on Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m. CT. The Tigers will compete in the first session against No. 6 LSU, No.22 Iowa and N.C. State.  The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

The evening session will host No. 3 Michigan, No. 14 UCLA, No. 20 Maryland and the winner of the play-in meet against Towson and Carolina. The top two teams from each session will advance to Saturday’s regional final, set for 4 p.m. CT. The top two finishers in the regional final will advance to the national championships.

The 2022 NCAA Regional marks Mizzou’s seventh-consecutive and 31st overall regional appearance.

SECOND ROUND ROTATIONS

As the second seed in the first session of the second round, Missouri will start the meet on vault. From there, the Tigers go to bars in the second rotation, move to beam, and conclude the meet on floor.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Mizzou gymnastics team recorded its highest-ever Southeastern Conference Championships score and finish with a 196.875 to place fourth at the 2022 Championships on March 19 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Ala. The fourth-place finish surpassed the previous high of sixth and the 196.875 bettered the 196.125 recorded at the 2021 SEC Championships.  
  • Junior Sienna Schreiber tied for second on beam with a 9.950, which was the highest score of the afternoon session. She also tied for sixth totaling 39.450 in the all-around.
  • On vault, freshman Jocelyn Moore tied for second with a 9.950, which was the highest score in the afternoon session. On floor, Moore scored 9.90.  
  • Freshman Amari Celestine tied for fifth overall on floor with a 9.925. On vault, Celestine tallied a 9.85 and on bars, she tallied a 9.775.

SCHREIBER AND MOORE CLAIMS REGULAR SEASON ALL-AMERICA HONORS

  • Freshman Jocelyn Moore and Sienna Schreiber were named Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Regular Season All-American, the organization announced on March 24. Moore claimed first team honors on vault, while Schreiber claimed second team honors on beam and in the all-around.
  • Moore is the ninth Tiger in program history to claim All-America honors and the fourth to earn regular season accolades since the WCGA (previously known as the NACGC/W) introduced the award in 2013. She joins Britney Ward (2016, 2017) Helen Hu (2020) Sienna Schreiber (2021,2022) as WCGA Regular Season All-Americans.
  • Regular season All-Americans are determined by National Qualifying Score (NQS) rankings. The top eight gymnasts (including ties) on each event and in the all-around earned first team honors, while the next eight were named to the second team.
  • Schreiber currently ranks tied for 11th on beam with an NQS of 9.933. Overall, she totaled eight scores of 9.9 or higher and six scores of 9.925 or better on beam in ten meets this year, including a career-best 9.975 at home in the regular season finale.
  • Moore currently ranks tied for 7th on vault with an NQS of 9.940. Overall, she totaled six scores on 9.925 or higher and four scores of 9.95 on vault in ten meets this year, including three consecutives 9.95 in the last three meets.

WELKER AND SCHREIBER EARN SEC HONORS

  • Welker was name SEC Coach of the Year and Schreiber tab as the SEC Specialist of the Year. Welker is the first coach in Mizzou history to be name the top coach in the league. Schreiber is only the second Tiger in program history to earn conference specialist of the year accolades and only the fourth to claim a major award from the SEC, joining Helen Hu, the 2020 Specialist of the Year. Morgan Porter, the 2016 Freshman of the Year, and Katelyn Trevino, the 2015 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
  • In addition, Mizzou placed five gymnasts to the All-SEC team and two on the All-Freshman team. Alisa Sheremeta, Helen Hu, Schreiber, Amari Celestine, and Jocelyn Moore all earn All-SEC recognition. Both Celestine and Amari were also named to the All-Freshman team.
