CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The University of Missouri wrestling team is set to take on the 2023 Southern Scuffle presented by Compound Sportswear, hosted by the Chattanooga Mocs. The two-day event will begin on New Year’s Day Sunday, Jan. 1, and conclude Monday, Jan. 2.

20 teams will compete in the tournament including Iowa, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Northern Colorado, Purdue, Rider, Stanford, North Dakota State, App State, Maryland, Binghamton, Bucknell, CSU Bakersfield, Duke, Gardner-Webb, Hofstra and host Chattanooga.

Last season, Missouri finished first of 28 teams at the Southern Scuffle with 175.5 points. Keegan O’Toole cruised to a weight title at 165 pounds behind four bonus-point victories. O’Toole also recorded two wins by fall during the two-day tournament on his way to the 165-pound title.

Joining O’Toole at the top of the podium was Rocky Elam at 197 pounds. Elam won the championship match after Penn State’s Michael Beard conceded the match following the first period due to injury. Also making finals were Allan Hart (141 pounds), Josh Edmond (149 pounds) and Peyton Mocco (174 pounds). Hart and Mocco both knocked off the No. 1 seeded wrestlers to earn their trips to their respective championship matches. All three Mizzou grapplers fell in the final to end the tournament with second place finishes.

Mizzou is coming off a 28-11 win over No. 15 North Dakota State, prior to the holiday break, Dec. 20. The Tigers saw pins from Hart and Mocco, and an 11-2 major decision from sophomore Colton Hawks
