SERIES BUSINESS

  • Mizzou and Tarleton State meet for the first time on the diamond and the first time in direct head-to-head competition in any sport. The only previous meeting between Tigers and Texans came in 2002, when both track & field teams sent representatives to the Texas A&M and College Station multi-events.
  • The Texans are in their second year as members of Division I and are led by Kansas City native and Missouri State alum Aaron Meade.

GOING HOME

  • Mizzou returns to Taylor Stadium for the first time in 2022. The Tigers are 365-217 all-time at Taylor Stadium for a .627 winning percentage at the facility.
  • The black & gold opened the season with a 6-1 road trip through Louisiana, representing the program’s best start since 2017.
  • The Tigers are scheduled to play the next eight games at home prior to opening SEC play on March 18.

LOOKING BACK

  • Mizzou’s season-opening road trip to Louisiana was certainly a success as the Tigers showed the ability to win games both at the plate and on the mound in staking a 6-1 start on the season.
  • Opening weekend at Nicholls was all about the bats, as the Tigers took advantage of the warm weather to score 41 runs over the first four games. Mizzou then put up a whopping 19 runs in its midweeker at Southern on Wednesday.
  • Once the Tigers arrived in Monroe, a change in the weather brought cold and winds which blew in throughout the weekend. It mattered little as Mizzou pitching struck out 28 in two games and posted a 2.00 ERA in two wins at ULM.

TAKE IT ON THE RUN

  • Mizzou has wreaked havoc on the basepaths through two weeks, going a perfect 19-for-19 in stolen bases as a team.
  • The Tigers stole home twice on double steals as part of their onslaught on the bases.
  • Ross Lovich led the black & gold with four stolen bases, including three in Saturday’s win alone.
  • Seven different Tigers had a stolen base on opening weekend.
  • Mizzou continued its early success on the basepaths with another pair of stolen bases at Southern to make the Tigers 13-for-13 in five games.

ABOUT THAT PITCHING

  • Yes, the season is young, but it’s easy to see the changes in Mizzou’s pitching staff early in the year.
  • Through seven games, the Tigers own a 3.88 ERA while limiting opponents to .225 hitting.
  • Mizzou arms have fanned 71 batters while walking just 23. Compare that to 2021 where the Tigers had struck out 51 while walking 52 through seven games.
  • The black & gold has also held opponents in check with a .349 slugging percentage, allowing just 15 extra-base hits.
