Mizzou Softball to Open Season at Northern Lights Invitational in Florida

NCAA Softball: No. 18 Mizzou Tigers vs. Western Illinois Fighting Leathernecks

COLUMBIA, Mo. – After a Super Regional appearance in 2021, the Mizzou Softball program will open the 2022 season in Leesburg, Florida from February 11th-13th at the Northern Lights Invitational. The Tigers will look to return to the Women’s College World Series for the first time since the 2011 season.

The Northern Lights Invitational is intended for teams that are unable or only occasionally able to practice outdoors at the beginning of the season due to weather.

The Tigers are scheduled to take on UConn, Eastern Kentucky, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, and Liberty. Among those teams, Virginia Tech reached a Super Regional in 2021 while both Eastern Kentucky and Liberty appeared in a Regional.

Missouri is returning every starter from last year’s squad. The 2021 team set a new program record with 91 home runs on the season and led the nation in with a 1.37 ERA in the NCAA Tournament thanks to dominant performances from Jordan Weber and Laurin Krings. Mizzou set a program record with a .979 fielding percentage, finishing ninth in the nation.

Brooke Wilmes was the tone-setter for the Tigers out of the leadoff spot. She was named an NFCA Third Team All-American after a career season where she batted .373 with 16 doubles, 13 home runs and 55 RBI.

For those looking to catch an early look at the 2022 squad, Missouri will close out the 2022 fall season on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. CT at Mizzou Softball Stadium. Admission is free to all fall games.
