TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In week four of SEC play, the University of Missouri tennis team (6-12, 1-4 SEC) begins competition at No. 38 Alabama (12-5, 2-3 SEC) on Friday, March 25.
SEC at Home
Mizzou hosted its first pair of SEC matches this past weekend as the Tigers took on No. 16 Florida and No. 45 South Carolina. Ellie Wright was responsible for the team’s sole point in the match against Florida, defeating Emma Shelton, 6-2, 6-2. In the fight against South Carolina, Emelie Schwarte tallied her first victory against a ranked opponent, taking down No. 85 Elise Mills, 6-3, 6-1. Gabriela Martinez grabbed the second Mizzou point with a final-slot win against Misa Malkin, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
A Look at Alabama
No. 38 Alabama is suffering from a three-game losing streak after dropping matches to No. 9 Auburn, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. Prior to those matches, the Crimson Tide had defeated their first two SEC opponents of the season with No. 28 Kentucky and No. 22 Vanderbilt. The team has also slowly dropped in the ITA Rankings, earning their highest ranking (No. 19) back on March 9, then falling to No. 38 in this week’s polls. There are currently two Alabama players in the ITA singles rankings, Loudmilla Bencheikh (No. 74) and Petra Sedlackova (No. 107).
The teams are slated to begin competition at 5 p.m. Live stats and streaming will be available as well as updates via Twitter (@MizzouTennis).
