Mizzou Faces Gonzaga in Midweek Matinee

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri baseball (9-1) faces No. 15/25 Gonzaga (9-2) on Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Stadium. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on SEC Network +.

The Tigers and Zags were originally scheduled to play a four-game weekend series, but inclement weather in the forecast forced the alteration to a midweek tilt. Beau Baehman and Nate Gatter have the call on SECN+.

Fans can catch Mizzou baseball on the airwaves all season long on KTGR and the Tiger Radio Network. Tex Little and Matt Michaels will have the call.

PITCHING PROBABLES

The Tigers will send LHP Nathan Landry to the mound. Landry is 1-0 on the season with a 3.60 ERA in 10 innings. He has struck out 15 on the year while issuing just a single walk.

Gonzaga will counter with LHP Bradley Mullan. Mullan is also 1-0 on the year and owns a 0.00 ERA in 6.1 innings.

SERIES BUSINESS

  • Mizzou and Gonzaga meet for the eighth time on Wednesday, with the Zags holding a 5-2 lead in the series.
  • The Tigers and Bulldogs have split a pair of games in Columbia, both coming in 2011.
  • In their most recent meeting, the squads split a midweek series with Mizzou winning 5-2 on March 8, 2011 and Gonzaga taking a 4-1 win the following day.

ON A ROLL

  • Mizzou enters the weekend riding a seven-game winning streak dating back to the finale of opening weekend. The 9-1 start marks just the eighth time in the past 75 seasons the Tigers have won 9-of-10 to open the year.
  • The seven-game winning streak is the longest since 2020 when the Tigers won their last seven games of the shortened campaign.
  • The nine non-conference wins have already surpassed Mizzou’s 2021 non-con win total of seven.
  • The hot start has Mizzou ranked No. 18 in the initial RPI and receiving votes in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the NCBWA Poll.

MONTGOMERY MASHING

  • Junior first baseman Torin Montgomery kickstarted his 2022 campaign with a seven-hit weekend against Nicholls and added another two knocks at Southern.
  • His .429 batting average leads the Tigers, as do his five doubles on the year.
  • Montgomery has scored 10 runs thus far in 2022 while driving in another 10 himself in just nine games played.
  • The first baseman has walked seven times, been hit twice and reached at a .512 clip all while only striking out two times thus far.
  • The righty leads the SEC and the country with four sac flies this season.
