COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri (4-4) won its second match of the weekend against the University of Central Arkansas (5-5) on Saturday evening, 4-2.

After a slow start to the match, the Tigers picked up momentum in singles and never let go. Emelie Schwarte put the first point on the board for Mizzou, beating Yada Vasupongchai, 6-2, 6-0. Bronte Murgett secured her singles win against Chunxi Xin to put the team ahead 2-1 in the match, 6-1, 6-2.

Romary Cardenas extended Missouri’s lead to 3-1 with her victory over Maja Gledic, 6-2, 7-5. Elys Ventura clinched the match for the Tigers with a third set win over Mei Ishimura, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. Ellie Wright’s match against Fuka Nonoyama went unfinished, 6-1, 4-6, 2-4.

“This was a very good all around team win. Good teams find a way to win when they are not playing their best and we did that today.” said coach Chris Wootton. “I give tons of credit to Central Arkansas for a great effort. We took advantage of a couple momentum swings and bought in to being great at crucial moments. The team and staff excelled this weekend with a high level of execution!”

Mizzou is on the road again after two successful home matches. The Tigers head to Virginia to play both Liberty University and James Madison University on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
