Missouri Begins 2022 at Southern Scuffle

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 11 Missouri wrestling will kick off the new year at the Southern Scuffle presented by Compound Sportswear Jan. 1-2 at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn. The open tournament will be streamed live on FloWrestling.

The Tigers will send a contingent of 16 wrestlers to the tournament, including nine starters and two unattached entries. Two-time All-American junior Brock Mauller will make his season debut as an unattached entry wrestling up at 157 pounds for the first time in his career. Freshman Colton Hawks will also make the trip as an unattached wrestler.

Head coach Brian Smith will have multiple attached entries at 133 pounds (Connor Brown and Trey Crawford), 157 pounds (No. 17 Jarrett Jacques and Mitchell Bohlken), 174 pounds (No. 17 Peyton Mocco and Sean Harman) and 197 pounds (No. 6 Rocky Elam and Jack Flynn). 

At 125 pounds, the reigning Big 12 Wrestler of the Week Noah Surtin looks to pick up where he left off in December. The redshirt freshman finished 2021 on a 4-0 streak, including three top-15 wins. He enters the Scuffle as the No. 13 wrestler in the weight class according to FloWrestling.

He will be joined by No. 12 Allan Hart (141 pounds), No. 20 Josh Edmond (149 pounds), No. 3 Keegan O’Toole (165 pounds), No. 16 Jeremiah Kent (184 pounds) and Seth Nitzel (285 pounds) as the lone wrestlers at their weights.

O’Toole and Elam are the highest-ranked wrestlers in their respective weight classes.
