Batesville, Ark. The No. 12 ranked Columbia College men’s soccer team took on the Scots of Lyon College today in their first American Midwest Conference matchup of the season. After an early goal from the Cougars, both teams played out the match with multiple defensive stops to give Columbia the 1-0 win.

Columbia (3-2-3) defeated Lyon College (1-8-2), 1-0

Columbia started the match fast as Guy Baskerville found Nick Brandt on the offensive effort where Brandt converted in the tenth minute to give the Cougars the 1-0 lead.

The Cougars finished the first-half with eight team shots, as their defense held the Scots to just three.

Lyon picked up its offensive pressure in the second-half as they doubled their shot count to six, while also holding Columbia to three.

Ethan Blake had a great look midway through the second-half, but his shot was blocked to keep the score at 1-0.

In goal, Liam Gibbs finished the match with two saves.

The Cougars are back at home on Tuesday, September 27th, as they play host to (RV) Grand View University in non-conference action. Game time is set for 7:00PM.
