Men’s Soccer Drops Road Contest at Williams Baptist

Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The No. 14-ranked Columbia College men’s soccer team saw its three-game win streak snapped with a 2-0 loss at Williams Baptist University Saturday in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
 
Williams Baptist remains unbeaten with a 7-0-2 mark (1-0-1 AMC), while Columbia falls to 4-3-3 (1-1 AMC). Williams Baptist was just outside the top-25 (No. 27) receiving 65 votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll.
 
Each team recorded five shots in the opening half, but it was Williams Baptist who found the back of the net first on a goal by Gabriel Otero in the 19th minute.
 
The Cougars nearly tied the contest in the 71st minute when Erik Rajoy had a pair of shots deflect off the post.
 
Williams Baptist added an insurance goal by Daniel Oliveira in the 82nd minute. 
 
Liam Gibbs made one save in goal for the Cougars.
 
Columbia had a 12-9 advantage in shots and registered all seven corner kicks in the contest.
 
The Cougars host Central Baptist College on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 2:30 p.m.
