Cape Girardeau, Mo. – The Missouri men’s golf team finished the Golfweek Collegiate Kickoff on a strong note, topping the field by 10 strokes to rally for a second-place finish at Dalhousie Golf Club on Tuesday.

Paced by senior Jack Lundin and sophomore Alfons Bondesson, the Tigers carded an eight-under 280 on the day – finishing as the only team to break par during the tournament’s final round. Topping the rest of the field by at least 10 strokes, Mizzou improved its team standing from fourth to second in the season-opening matchup.

Lundin nearly rallied for the individual crown on the final day, placing second with a 10-under 206. The senior entered the day four shots off the lead but fought back to within a single stroke at the end. He nearly completed the rally on the final hole only for LSU’s Alex Price to chip in on the 18th hole to secure the one-shot win.

Bondesson led Mizzou with a seven-under 65 – just one stroke shy of the course record. The sophomore connected on nine birdies in his 18 holes of action with two bogeys as his 65 was three shots better than any other of the 71 golfers competing on Tuesday. Overall, Bondesson improved his standing by 29 places to finish eighth overall at three-under.

Dagbjartur Sigurbrandsson (73-73-72; +2), Charlie Crockett (73-71-76; +4) and Virgilio Paz (71-79-72; +6) rounded out the top five for the Tigers on the day.

LSU secured the team title with a 20-under 844, seven strokes ahead of Mizzou in second place at 851. Stetson (859), Ball State (865) and ULM (867) rounded out the top five.

The Tigers are back in action when they head west later this week, competing at the Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate Friday through Sunday.
