The Missouri men’s golf team battled through tough conditions on the final day of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic to finish third of 21 schools.

The third-place finish is the team’s top result in three spring tournaments. With only two of the 21 schools recording an under-par score during the third round (compared to 15 in the opening round), No. 28 San Diego State claimed the team title with a seven-under 857 over the 54 holes. Kansas was second at -6 with Mizzou placing third with a one-under 863 following a final-day tally of 292.

Junior Jack Lundin and Antonio Safa led the Tigers with a one-under tally of 215 during the tournament, placing 12th overall of 116 golfers after a final-day 76 on Tuesday.

Senior Charlie Crockett made a charge up the leaderboard during the third round, finishing as one of just 12 golfers with a below-par score Tuesday. Crockett carded a final-day 70 to finish one over and in 21st place – rising 31 spots in the leaderboard on the final day of action.

Freshman Alfons Bondesson and senior DJ Springer rounded out the week by placing 32nd (+4) and 73rd (+11), respectively.

The Tigers are set to return to action on Monday, hosting the Tiger Collegiate Invitational at the Club at Old Hawthorne.

QUOTABLE
“As a team, we didn’t play as clean as we needed to today in tough conditions,” said Missouri co-head coach Mark Hankins. “This was our first event in the desert and I’m pleased with how we prepared and focused for the week leading up to and throughout the tournament. Individually, we had a lot of guys near the top of the leaderboard in a large 21-team field. Each of them improved this week and I’m encouraged by a solid third-place showing.”
