Hannibal, Mo. – The Columbia College men’s basketball team earned a share of the American Midwest Conference Regular Season Champion title today after holding on to beat the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University. The Cougars finished the regular season reaching the 20-win plateau at 20-8 overall and 12-4 in AMC play.

Columbia garnered the #1 seed in the AMC tournament due to the Cougars sweeping Williams Baptist while Missouri Baptist split with WBU. The Cougars will host an AMC quarterfinal contest on Thursday, February 23rd.

The Trojans kept pace with Columbia today as the Cougars only led by three at the half, 30-27. In the closing moments of the game, HLGU used a made layup to tie the score at 53-53. Out of an HLGU timeout, Tony Burks was fouled on a layup attempt, sending him to the free throw line with just four seconds remaining. Burks sank both free throws to give Columbia the 55-53 lead. A last chance heave from the Trojans was just wide, giving the win to the Cougars.

Collin Parker finished with a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds. Tony Burks followed with 14 points and four assists. Brock Davis had a team-high seven rebounds.
