Marshall Named To 2024 SEC Community Service Team

Amaya Marshall

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Senior Amaya Marshall was named to the 2024 SEC Gymnastics Community Service Team, the conference announced on Friday.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.

Marshall is involved in several community service activities around the Columbia community, attending nearly 60 events throughout her four years at the University of Missouri. The events she has volunteered at include helping at local food banks, working with Special Olympics athletes and serving as a recess/lunch mentor at Columbia Public Schools.

One of Marshall’s favorite community service activities is Playing 4 Hope, where student-athletes from Mizzou pair up with children suffering from disability, illness or disease at the MU Children’s Hospital. Over the last two years, she has volunteered with Playing 4 Hope several times.

Outside the gym, Marshall is also an active member of Student-Athletes Fostering Empowerment (SAFE) and the Black Student-Athlete Association (BSAA).

As a gymnast, the Kannapolis, North Carolina, native has returned from injury as an impact gymnast on bars and beam for the Tigers this season. She has hit three 9.9 routines on bars so far this season, including a career-best 9.925 two weeks ago at the Mizzou Quad meet.
