Krings Tosses 12th Perfect Game in Program History

Krings

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 15/8 University of Missouri softball (16-4) completed a 4-0 weekend, downing Bradley (10-9) by a score of 8-0 in six innings as Laurin Krings tossed a perfect game with 12 strikeouts.

Mizzou jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first. Brooke Wilmes led off the inning with an infield single and then advanced to second after a throwing error by the shortstop. Jenna Laird then hit a ground ball to short that was thrown away, allowing Wilmes to score. Laird was thrown out attempting to reach third.

Laurin Krings struck out six-consecutive batters between the first and third innings, a streak that was broken up by a bunt.

The Tigers’ offense picked right back up in the second inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Casidy Chaumont ripped a double off the center field wall, scoring two. A rundown caused the runner on third to be tagged out. Brooke Wilmes then singled back up the middle to score Chaumont and make it 4-0 for the Tigers.

In the bottom of the third inning, Kara Daly drove a solo home run over the left field wall. She homered in all four games on the weekend after making her Mizzou Softball Stadium debut on Friday.

The Braves’ nearly got a baserunner in the fourth inning. Krings fell behind 2-0 to the leadoff batter, but she we able to snag a sharp ground ball right back up the middle and make the toss over to first. After a popup on the infield, the next batter hit a looping ground ball back up the middle and Jenna Laird was able to move to her left, field it and make a strong throw to first for the third out of the inning.

Krings struck out all three batters in the fifth inning after reaching her only three-ball count of the day against the first batter of the inning. She would then go on to retire all three batters in the sixth inning with the Tigers leading 5-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers looked to end the game quickly. Kendyll Bailey led it off with a single into left before Megan Moll ripped a pinch-hit single up the middle before reaching second while the infield was not paying attention. Emma Raabe then walked to load the bases. Casidy Chaumont smacked a line drive through the middle, and because the outfield was playing at the warning track, she turned it into a two-run double. Leading 7-0 with runners on second and third, Brooke Wilmes lined the first pitch that she saw into right field for a walkoff RBI single.
