Keegan O’Toole Named Academic All-American

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Making an impact on the mat and in the classroom, sophomore Keegan O’Toole was selected as a second-team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators (CSC) Wednesday, June 21.

O’Toole is the sixth wrestler in program history, with 10 total, to earn the Academic All-America accolade as voted on by the CSC. The sophomore joins Tiger Style greats Bobby Crawford (1988 & 1990), Greg Warren (1991), Shaon Fry (1992 & 1993), Kenny Burleson (2004) and Tyler McCormick (2006, 2007 & 2008).

The Hartland, Wis. native finished the 2022-23 season 20-2. In his third year as an All-American, O’Toole totaled 13 bonus-point victories and 13 wins over ranked opponents. Additionally, the sophomore led the team with 79 takedowns across the season, averaging 3.59 takedowns per match, while topping Mizzou in total riding time with over 41 minutes.  

Solidifying the repeat, O’Toole was crowned the 2023 National Champion at 165 pounds for the second consecutive season after defeating David Carr of Iowa State 8-2 in the final match. The two-time Hodge Trophy finalist outscored his opponents 43-11 on his way to the championship bout and knocked off two All-Americans.

In the classroom, O’Toole maintained a 3.69 grade point average as a personal financial planning major. Additionally, he was named an NWCA Scholar All-American for the third time and an Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree in 2022-23.

O’Toole is one of 10 NCAA Division I wrestlers to earn Academic All-American distinction this year, with seven of the 10 residing in the Big 12 Conference.
