If he could, Brandon Aiyuk would bet on the Chiefs in the Super Bowl

Even though his San Francisco 49ers lost pretty convincingly to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game, it sounds like Brandon Aiyuk doesn’t have a lot of respect for the team they’ve put together in Philly.

Aiyuk recently explained to TheSFNiners podcast that he believes the Kansas City Chiefs will win Super Bowl LVII. That on its own isn’t necessarily newsworthy, but the emphasis with which Aiyuk solidified his prediction has certainly been turning heads on Super Bowl Week.

“If I were going to bet on this game, I would take everything I own, get it in cash, and put my money on the Kansas City Chiefs,” Aiyuk said during the podcast interview.

Now, it doesn’t sound like Aiyuk is following in the footsteps of Calvin Ridley, betting on NFL games to invite a lengthy suspension for his indiscretions. But he’s saying, hypothetically, if he were to bet on the game, he would entrust his funds to the Chiefs to knock off the Eagles.

Those are some bold words for a guy whose team just lost to the Eagles, 31-7! Although most fans and media are dismissing Aiyuk’s comments as bitterness, the 24-year-old wideout does have a point when it comes to the way Philadelphia’s top-ranked pass defense has been tested on its journey to the Super Bowl.

Basically, well, it hasn’t been. Unless you consider Daniel Jones and veteran journeyman Josh Johnson a test.

Sure, Philly deserves credit for making the play that knocked Brock Purdy from the game and tore the UCL in his throwing arm. But there’s no doubt that the flukish injury turned the NFC Championship Game into a foregone conclusion.

If the Eagles see a full four quarters of Patrick Mahomes Sunday, the task won’t be quite so simple.

For their part, the Eagles aren’t too worried about Aiyuk’s prophecy.

“I just be laughing it,” Eagles cornerback Darius Slay said in response to Aiyuk’s quote. “That weird weird, so… Bad sportsmanship by him. Bad.”
