Gymnastics Checks In At No. 12 In Road To Nationals Rankings

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri gymnastics team enters the third week of the 2024 season tied with Auburn at No. 12 in the Road To Nationals rankings. The Tigers are slotted two places ahead of their preseason ranking of No. 14.

Head coach Shannon Welker’s squad won a pair of event titles in a top-five clash against No. 4 Alabama Friday night, as junior Jocelyn Moore secured the vault title with a 9.925 and graduate Sienna Schreiber posted a 9.950 to take home the beam title to help Mizzou keep the score close against the Crimson Tide. The Tigers’ average score sits at 196.813 after two weeks of competition.

For the second consecutive week, the Tigers have two event scores that sit among the top 10 in the country, ranking sixth in the nation on both vault and floor. Missouri jumped four spots in the vault rankings by posting a 49.375 for the program’s fifth-best single-meet score on the apparatus. With a second consecutive week of 9.9 performances from Moore and freshman Hannah Horton, the Tigers scored a 49.350 on floor to maintain their spot in the top 10. 

Missouri held onto spots in the top 25 for the other two events, checking in at No. 19 on beam and No. 22 on bars.

In the individual standings, the Tigers have two individuals positioned among the top 10 in the country on their event. Moore is tied for fifth in the country on floor with an average score of 9.938, while Schreiber is tied for seventh in the nation on beam with an event average of 9.938.

Other Tigers ranked in the top 25 include Horton, who earned a placement on both vault (No. 16) and floor (No. 22) after becoming the first Tiger freshman since 2022 to post two 9.9s in a single meet against Alabama. Junior Amari Celestine also checks in at No. 20 on vault after scoring a 9.875 for a second consecutive outing.

UP NEXT

The Tigers travel to Athens, Georgia for their second SEC road dual meet in as many weeks against No. 20 Georgia. The action at Stegeman Coliseum is slated for a 1 p.m. CT start, and the meet will stream on SEC Network+.
