Gymnastics Achieves Program-Best No. 3 Ranking In Road To Nationals Standings

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri gymnastics team secured its highest-ever placement in the Road To Nationals standings Monday, checking in at No. 3 after the first week of the 2024 season. 

The Tigers opened up their campaign with a 197.150 at the Mizzou Invitational, Jan. 6, to earn the program’s best ranking to date. With its team score, Missouri has the highest score among all SEC teams. Additionally, head coach Shannon Welker’s squad ended the opening weekend as one of four teams to finish with a score higher than 197 alongside No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Utah and No. 4 Alabama.

Mizzou’s performance landed it among the top 20 teams in all four events, as the team ranks No. 3 on floor, No. 4 on beam, No. 10 on vault and No. 16 on bars.

In the individual rankings, junior Jocelyn Moore is tied for the pole position on floor after dazzling the Hearnes Center crowd with a 9.975 while freshman Hannah Horton slots in at No. 13 with a 9.900.

Two Tigers earned top-10 placements on beam, as graduate Sienna Schreiber (9.925) and junior Grace Anne Davis (9.900) rank sixth and 10th, respectively. Junior Amari Celestine also claimed a top-25 spot on beam at No. 21 with a 9.875.

Celestine and Horton additionally secured top-20 vault scores, tying in the No. 18 position with a 9.875.

UP NEXT

The Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for their SEC opener for a top-five clash against No. 4 Alabama, Friday, Jan. 12. First touch from Coleman Coliseum is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the meet will be broadcast on SEC Network.
