Griffin Earns SEC Freshman of the Week Award

Kennedy Griffin celebrates a tremendous floor routine against LSU.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Missouri gymnastics freshman Kennedy Griffin picked up her first SEC Freshman of the Week nod, the conference announced Tuesday.

In just her third collegiate meet, Griffin stole the show and helped Missouri complete a stunning fourth-rotation comeback to pull off their biggest ranked win in program history over No. 3 LSU. Trailing by .150 heading into the final rotation, Griffin was one of five Tigers to score a 9.9 or higher on floor as she won the floor title with a career-best and program record tying 9.975 in the fifth spot.

Her score tied the total score at 197.225 apiece and was a part of the Tigers’ 49.600 floor score, tied for the second-best score in program history. Additionally, the Strongsville, Ohio, native is one of just two freshmen in the country to have scored a 9.975 on floor this season.

The Strongsville, Ohio, native is the first Tiger to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors since Amari Celestine on March 15, 2022. Through three meets, Griffin has already racked up a pair of 9.9s on floor and sits just outside the top 25 in the country in average score on the apparatus with a 9.900.
