Forbes Named to 2023 SEC Volleyball Community Service Team

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri volleyball junior Lauren Forbes was named to the 2023 SEC Community Service Team, the league announced Wednesday.

Forbes has been active with Columbia Public Schools, volunteering in a multitude of roles over her time as a Tiger. Forbes has helped during recess and lunch breaks at both Alpha Hart Lewis Elementary School and Russell Boulevard Elementary School. 

The Springfield, Missouri, native, has also volunteered at Locust Street Elementary School and Cedar Ridge Elementary School for Tiger Tuesdays along with the Moving Ahead after school program. 

She has volunteered with Special Olympics as part of the National Student-Athlete Day Celebration. 

In the classroom, Forbes was named to the 2021-22 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll and the 2022 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll.

An early enrollee in spring 2021, she will graduate this December from Mizzou with a bachelor’s in health science. Following graduation, she plans to go to Anesthesiologist Assistant School.

The defensive specialist/libero has appeared in 80 career matches (265 sets) over three seasons with Mizzou. She has registered 431 career digs and 36 aces. In 2023, Forbes has posted a career-best matching 15 aces with 120 digs. She compiled a career-high 18 digs against Bellarmine on Sept. 8.

Forbes was a member of the last Missouri team to make an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2020 (April 2021). That season, Mizzou advanced to the NCAA Second Round after a 3-0 sweep of South Dakota in Omaha, Nebraska.

The 2023 Tigers who earned the eight seed will face Delaware (24-4) Friday in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m., CT, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. The match will be broadcasted on ESPN+.

With a victory over Delaware on Friday, Mizzou would face the winner of No. 1 overall seed Nebraska (28-1) and Long Island University (13-18) in the Second Round on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., CT.
