COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri football will open 2023 in primetime, facing South Dakota on Thursday, August 31, at Faurot Field, the Southeastern Conference announced.

Initially scheduled for Saturday, September 2, the game will air nationally on SEC Network at 7 p.m. CT.

“We are grateful to have another tremendous opportunity to start the Labor Day weekend off with a primetime football game on the SEC Network,” Director of Athletics Desireé Reed-Francois said. “We listened to our fans after last year’s season opener and wanted to create another memorable experience to open the 2023 season. Our student section and the crowd set the tone that night and built a season-long, home-field advantage. We look forward to welcoming everyone home to Columbia on August 31 inside Faurot Field.”

“A primetime game under the lights of Faurot Field is an awesome way to open the season,” Football Head Coach Eliah Drinkwitz said. “We appreciate our administration, the SEC and South Dakota for accommodating the date change. We believe this allows our student section and the best fans in the country to show out loud and proud and lead into Labor Day weekend in Missouri the right way!”

Mizzou will again encourage attendees to #TigerStripeFaurot in Black and Gold against the Coyotes on August 31.

The matchup, a first between the two programs, is only the fourth weeknight game at Faurot Field since 2009.

Additionally, CBS announced the annual Battle Line Rivalry Game, presented by Shelter Insurance, between Mizzou and Arkansas, will be played Friday, November 24, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. The game has been played on the Friday after Thanksgiving in seven of the last eight years, except for the 2020 campaign.

Mizzou will open the 2023 season on Thursday, August 31, against South Dakota inside Faurot Field. The Tigers’ robust home schedule features games against Kansas State, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida.
