Five Tigers Named to Soccer SEC Preseason Watchlist

Soccer SEC preseason watchlist

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced the 2023 Soccer Preseason Watchlist Tuesday, Aug. 15. Milena Fischer, Rachel Kutella, Grace Pettet, Leah Selm and Kylee Simmons represent the University of Missouri soccer team on the list.

A significant player in the Tigers’ offense in 2022, Fischer totaled two goals and three assists for seven points. The then-sophomore scored her first goal of the season at Omaha on Aug. 28 and recorded her second on a penalty kick against Florida on Oct. 9 that was the eventual game-winner. The junior earned a spot on the list for the third-straight season.

Pettet started all 17 games for Mizzou in 2022, playing in all 1,530 minutes. Last season she scored the first two goals of her career, with both coming via headers from corner kicks. The Tulsa, Okla. native helped lead the team to three scoreless efforts last season as she made the watchlist for the second consecutive year.

Joining Pettet as captains this season, Kutella and Selm earned the preseason distinction for the first time in their careers. Kutella played 1,492 minutes on the backline in 2022, starting all 17 games. Selm followed close behind, logging 1,478 minutes in the midfield. During her sophomore season, she scored the first goal of her Mizzou career against Southern Illinois on Aug. 25.

Rounding out the Mizzou representatives, Simmons received her first nod on the SEC’s Preseason Watchlist. The sophomore earned two goals and two assists in her freshman season and made eight starts. Additionally, the West Chester, Ohio native assisted on the game-winning goal against Kansas on Sept. 4.

The Tigers kick off the 2023 season inside Walton Stadium Thursday, Aug. 17, against Southeast Missouri at 6 p.m. CT.
