Five Cougars Earn AMC Weekly Awards

St. Louis, Mo. – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has released their selections for Player of the Week honors. They were selected from nominees submitted by each institution based on their performances from April 3 through April 9 and chosen through a vote of Sports Information Directors from around the AMC.

AMC Women’s Golfer of the Week
Emily Strunck, Columbia (Mo.)
GS | Scharbeutz, Germany

• Placed second at the Battle at Big Creek.
• Shot 79 (+7) for round one.
• Improved her score by 4-strokes after shooting a 75 in round two.

AMC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Gavin Frantz, Columbia (Mo.)
Jr. | Hannibal, Mo.

• Hit the NAIA “B” standard in the hammer throw.
• Tossed the hammer 54.00-meters.
• Set a new CC school record.

AMC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Dan Fick, Columbia (Mo.)
Jr. | Defiance, Mo.

• Picked up the win against Williams Baptist, tossing a complete-game.
• Struck out seven hitters and did not walk a batter.
• Allowed just one hit.

AMC Softball Player of the Week
Athena Wheeler, Columbia (Mo.)
Jr. | Columbia, Mo.

• Went 12-18 at the plate.
• Eight of the 12 hits went for extra bases – five home runs and three doubles.
• Drove in 17 runs and scored ten times.

AMC Softball Pitcher of the Week
Ella Schouten, Columbia (Mo.)
So. | Columbia, Mo.

• Pitched 17.0 innings, allowing just one earned run.
• Struck out 32 hitters, with two games over 10.
• Had three complete games.
