Ferreira Eclipses 1,000 Season Assists, Cougars Beat Stars

Columbia, Mo. – The 15th-ranked Cougars of Columbia College welcomed crosstown foe Stephens College to the Arena of Southwell Complex tonight in American Midwest Conference action. A much improved Stephens Stars squad made the Cougars work for it, but ultimately CC proved to be too much for the Stars as Columbia played to a 3-1 win (25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-10). 

The win moves the Cougars to 23-6 overall and 7-1 in AMC play while the Stars drop to 18-10 overall and 5-3 in conference play. 

The Cougars had key offensive contributions from three players that finished in double-digit kills. 

Alayna Rooks led all scorers with 16 kills on a .294 hitting percentage. 

Ellie Rockers notched a double-double of 12 kills and 18 digs, hitting .265% along the way. 

Abby Massengill totaled 10 kills with four blocks. 

Luisa Ferreira recorded her 1,000th assist of the season late in the fourth set, finishing the match with 46 total assists and eight digs. 

Magdalena Bostal had a game-high 21 digs for the Cougars. 

The Cougars have one week left of the regular season and now look to their home tri-match on Monday, October 30th. Columbia will take on #9 Missouri Baptist and #21 Central Methodist in non-conference action at home.
