Early Offensive Onslaught Sends Tigers to Sweep

Mike Coletta

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri baseball scored 11 times, all in the first three innings, to complete the series sweep of Tarleton State with an 11-6 win on Sunday afternoon at Taylor Stadium.

Junior Nander De Sedas finished the day 2-for-3 with three runs scored while senior Mike Coletta added a 2-for-2 day with two RBI to lead the black and gold in the hit column. Junior Torin Montgomery drove in three runs while Coletta, Luke Mann and Juju Stevens added two RBI each to give the Tigers (9-1) four multi-RBI performances.

On the mound, six Tigers combined to strikeout 11 Tarleton (3-8) batters. Junior transfer Austin Marozas made his debut after a preseason injury held him out of the first two weeks and sophomore Ian Lohse returned for the first time since his injury midway through the 2021 season.

IMPACT INNING

After Tarleton scored in the top of the first, Mizzou responded with a three-run bottom half. Josh Day walked to open the game at the plate before De Sedas roped a double into the left field corner. Day appeared to score on the play, but the ball was lodged under the fence and forced the Tigers to stop at second and third. It mattered little as Mann lifted a sac fly to tie the game and Montgomery followed with an RBI single to put the Tigers on top.

Coletta capped the inning with a two-out RBI single to make it 3-1 Tigers. Mizzou never surrendered the lead, scoring five in the second and three in the third to run away from the Texans.

“Well, really good job by the group here of being able to come out and secure this weekend. It’s never easy to do that. Very proud of the way we attacked, especially early, and the way offensively we were really locked in.”
