Dominant First Half Lifts Cougars Past Harris-Stowe

Columbia, Mo. – Madeleine Shylanski scored a pair of goals to lead the No. 6-ranked Columbia College women’s soccer team to a 6-0 win over Harris-Stowe University Saturday at R. Marvin Owens Field.

Columbia won its fourth-straight game to improve to 11-1-1 (4-0 AMC), while Harris-Stowe had its three-game win streak snapped and dropped to 11-2-1 (2-1-1 AMC).

The Cougars improved to 7-0 at home this season and extended their unbeaten streak to 18 games dating back to the 2022 season.

Emilia Zolesio Fernandez Blanco scored from 30 yards out in the fourth minute to quickly make it 1-0, and then in the 14th minute Macie Lucas threaded a through ball to Shylanski for a quick shot inside the box to push the lead to 2-0. The Cougars recorded the first seven shots of the game.

Macie Lucas had a shot deflect off the far post and Riley Porter was there for the open net tally in the 34th minute, and then Isabella Govero headed home a cross from Abigail Logan-Ritz at 39:33 to make it 4-0.

Columbia outshot Harris-Stowe 11-4 in the first half, putting seven shots on goal.

Shylanski tallied her second goal of the game in the 50th minute and Claire Innes scored in the 70th minute to round out the scoring.

Columbia outshot Harris-Stowe 20-6, putting 12 shots on goal, and the Cougars had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. 

Natalie Allison made four saves in goal as the Cougars’ defense recorded their ninth shutout of the season. Allison has an 11-1-1 record with an 0.56 goals against average in 13 starts this season.

The Cougars continue AMC play on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at William Woods University. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in Fulton.

NOTES: Columbia is 14-0 all-time against Harris-Stowe … Shylanski upped her career total to 16 goals… Harris-Stowe entered the game allowing only nine goals .. The nine shutouts for Columbia is tied for sixth in the NAIA.
