Cross Country Set to Host Larry Young Invitational on Saturday

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men’s and women’s cross country team will host the Second Annual Larry Young Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18. The men’s 8K race will begin at 9:30 AM, with the women’s 5K to follow beginning around 10:30.

The meet will consist of 21 teams from Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois, with 187 entered in the men’s race and 159 in the women’s run. A total of 346 athletes will hit the course.

The CC men’s team will send 12 runners on the course – Carter Brocarto, Alexander Dukes, Brock Fisher, Dean Frossard, Mason Gaines, Peter Giles, Ryker Grove, Jacob Jenkins, Ethan Line, Jerod Rottinghaus, Austin Tegeler, Charlie Werth.

The Cougars men took home first place at the 2020 event with 41 points. Alexander Dukes finished first overall with a 25:26.54, while Jerod Rottinghaus (10th, 27:35.96) and Carter Brocato (11th, 27:37.24) posted top-15 finishes.

Ten runners will suit up for the CC women’s team – Kyla Bertschinger, Grace Brinkmann, Kayla Brumels, Emma Homfeldt, Daylin Huebotter, Megan Korte, Jada O’Donnell, Mikayla Sehlmeyer, Lucia Suarez-Vega, Peri Welch.

At the 2020 Larry Young Invite, the Cougars were led by Mikayla Sehlmeyer’s 4th place finish. In addition, Jada O’Donnell (7th, 19:57.32), Grace Brinkmann (9th, 20:03.95), and Emma Homfeldt (10th, 20:04.58) placed in the top-10. The Cougars finished first overall with 39 team points.
