Cougars Top Missouri Baptist in AMC Opener

St. Louis, Mo. – The No. 5-ranked Columbia College women’s soccer team opened American Midwest Conference (AMC) play with a 4-0 victory at Missouri Baptist University Saturday in St. Louis. The shutout for the Cougars was their fifth of the season.
 
Columbia won its third-straight game to improve to 7-1 (1-0 AMC), while Missouri Baptist fell to 2-8 (1-1 AMC). The Cougars are off to their best start to a season since 2020.
 
Columbia outshot Missouri Baptist 16-3 and had a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
The Cougars scored on their sixth shot of the contest in the 19th minute after Emilia Zolesio Fernandez Blanco took a quick pass from Jewel Morelan and fired a shot from 25 yards out to make it 1-0. 
 
That would be the lone goal of the first half as Columbia held a 11-0 shot advantage and recorded seven corners in the opening 45 minutes of play.
 
Macie Lucas pushed the advantage to 2-0 with a goal in the 51st minute, and the Cougars added tallies from Madeleine Shylanski and Lucas late in the contest to round out the scoring. 
 
Natalie Allison picked up the shutout in goal as the Cougars’ defense did not allow a shot on goal.
 
The Cougars play a non-conference game at Campbellsville University on Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Campbellsville, Ky. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia has won eight-straight matches against Missouri Baptist and leads the all-time series 15-2 … Lucas upped her career total to 29 goals, and she recorded the second multi-goal tally of the season … The Cougars have scored first in seven of eight games played.
