ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The (RV) Columbia College women’s basketball team took on the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy this afternoon, claiming their second win against the Eutectics this season.
 
The Cougars overtook the Eutectics 75-65, improving to 20-4 (12-2 AMC) on the season.
 
Columbia dashed out to a 7-0 advantage, outscoring Health Sciences and Pharmacy 19-9 in the first quarter. Mallory Shetley led the way with six points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. Mackenzie Hess also tallied six rebounds in the first quarter of action. The Cougars held the Eutectics to 27 percent (3-for-11) from the field.
 
The Cougars and Eutectics each added 16 points in the second period, as Columbia held onto a 35-25 advantage going into the half.
 
The squads traded off buckets for much of the third quarter, while Columbia eventually went on a 7-0 run with 1:16 remaining in the quarter. At that point, the Cougars took an 18-point lead, 57-39. Mallory Shetley connected on 10 of Columbia’s 22 points in the third period.
 
Both teams produced their best shooting percentages of the contest in the final quarter as Columbia shot nearly 62 percent, while Health Sciences and Pharmacy shot 73 percent from the field. The Cougars took their largest lead of the game as DeLaney Horstman recorded a layup with 9:25 remaining, 61-41.
 
Columbia went on to secure a 75-65 edge over the Eutectics.
 
Mallory Shetley led the Cougars with 24 points (8-8 FT), while DeLaney Horstman recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Mackenzie Hess also recorded a career-high of 12 rebounds in the contest.
 
Columbia is back in action February 15 as they host Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) at 5:30 p.m.
