Cougars Take on No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan

MARION, Ind. – The (RV) Columbia College women’s basketball team took on a talented No.3-ranked Indiana Wesleyan team this evening for their first loss of the season. The Wildcats outperformed the Cougars, 90-67.

The Cougars move to 5-1 on the season.

Columbia opened with back-to-back three pointers from Abby Backes and Mackenzie Hess to gain their only lead of the contest, 6-5. The Wildcats proceeded with a 14-0 run to close out the first quarter, holding a 24-13 advantage.

Mackenzie Hess added three from behind the arc in the second period, leading the Cougars with nine points. Abby Backes also hit two back-to-back three’s nearing the end of the quarter which put Columbia within 13 points, 48-35.

The Cougars posted 11 points in the third quarter, looking to find their offensive presence. Indiana Wesleyan led 72-50 heading into the final period.

Mallory Shetley put up seven points in the fourth quarter and shot 50 percent from the field in the contest. The Wildcats controlled the rest of the game taking a 90-67 victory.

Indiana Wesleyan shot 53 percent from the field, while Columbia shot nearly 42 percent.

Columbia returns to action on November 21, traveling to No.-4-ranked Clarke University (Iowa) at 5:30 p.m.
