Cougars Take Home Multiple KCAC Awards

Columbia, Mo. – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has announced the 2023 KCAC Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference teams and season award winners.
 
Columbia secured four First-Team All-Conference selections, six All-KCAC Second-Team selections, while Bryce Peltier took home Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Hayden Carter was named to the Champions of Character Team. Each KCAC school selects a member of their team to receive the NAIA Champions of Character Award. It is awarded the student-athlete who they feel best exemplifies the NAIA ‘s five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
 
First Team All-Conference:

  • John Thomas (A) – Collected 28 goals and 12 assists to combine for a total of 40 points, while picking up 23 ground balls. Notched a season-high of five goals against Missouri Valley. Thomas is now a three-time All-KCAC selection.

 

  • Derek Howard (M) – Produced 20 goals, five assists, and 22 ground balls for a combined 25 points. Earned a season-high of five goals and two assists against Saint Mary (Kan.). Named to the All-Conference team for the second time in his career.

 

  • Peter Jones (LSM) – Picked up 38 ground balls, forcing seven caused turnovers. Recorded a season-high of nine ground balls in their matchup versus Saint Mary. Jones was named an All-Conference performer for the second time in his career.

 

  • Bryce Peltier (GK) – Has accumulated 141 saves, producing a save percentage of .662. Picked up 32 saves, setting a new school record against St. Ambrose (Iowa) on March 24, 2023. Has maintained a goals against average of 8.05. Picked up his second All-KCAC recognition this season.

 
Second Team All-Conference:

  • Tyler Parrott (A) – Secured 21 goals and 17 assists, accumulating 38 points. Has scored in all but two contests for the Cougars. Produced four goals on three separate occasions this season. Parrott is now a four-time All-KCAC selection.

 

  • Ethan Houston (A) – Collected 13 goals and 11 assists, securing 24 points. Achieved a season-high of three goals against St. Ambrose.

 

  • Kellen Brechbill (M) – Grabbed nine goals and dished out eight assists for a total of 17 points. Secured a season-high of four assists against St. Ambrose.

 

  • Caden Blevins (D) – Picked up 10 ground balls, forcing nine caused turnovers.

 

  • Erik Spain (SSM) – Picked up four ground balls, initiating four caused turnovers.

 

  • Kail Mattis (FO/DRAW) – Leads the Cougars with 43 ground balls. Gathered 97-207 faceoffs, ranking 19th in the NAIA.
