Cougars Remain Undefeated in AMC Play

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The (RV) Columbia College women’s basketball team earned  another American Midwest Conference (AMC) win this afternoon against Williams Baptist (Ark.), 72-65.

The Cougars improve to 8-2 on the season and 3-0 in AMC play.

Mallory Shetley found her rhythm right away for Columbia, scoring eight points, giving the Cougars a 15-8 advantage with 5:51 in the first quarter.

The Eagles then went on a 9-0 run, securing their first lead of the contest at 16-15. Heading into the second quarter, Williams Baptist held a 25-21 edge. Columbia shot 57 percent from the arc, notching four of seven.

DeLaney Horstman rattled off a quick nine points, allowing Columbia within three with 7:02 left to play. The Cougars regained the lead after a successful layup from Sydney Reddin, taking a 39-34 advantage heading into the locker room.

The Eagles did not let up producing 15 points in period three, compared to Columbia’s 16 points. Heading into the final stanza, the Cougars led 55-49.

Columbia picked up their largest lead of the contest of 11 points midway through the fourth quarter, and would rely on free throws (7-10 FT) to escape with the 72-65 victory.

DeLaney Horstman and Allison Stiers led the Cougars in their respective categories, as Horstman added 22 points, while Stiers brought down eight rebounds. 

Columbia hits the road on December 5 for their next matchup against Oklahoma City University at 6:00 p.m.
