Cougars Play Comets for First Time in Program History

Nevada, Mo. – The Columbia College softball team traveled to Cottey College to take on the Comets for the first time in program history today. In their inaugural season in the American Midwest Conference, the Comets entered today’s contests with an 18-14 overall record and a 6-0 mark in AMC play. After winning game one, the Cougars dropped game two to split the series, moving to 5-3 in AMC play while the Comets improved to 7-1.

  • Ella Schouten registered 13 k’s in the contest with only one ER
  • Jazlin Gottman and Chesney Luebbering both registered a double
  • Athena Wheeler hit a three-run homer
  • Emily King finished with two hits and one RBI

Cottey def. CC, 18-1

  • Tasia Green tallied one double
  • Abigail Pringer, Bailey Merritt, Emily King, and Sophia Angel all finished with one hit each
  • Tasia Green registered the lone RBI 
  • Jazlin Gottman, Kylie Kinsler, Suzanna Shanks, and Kennedy Jensen each had a strikeout

The Cougars are back in action this weekend with a home series against Harris-Stowe State University on Friday and then against UHSP at home on Saturday.
