Cougars Move to 3-0 With Win Over Culver-Stockton

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men’s basketball team had three players score in double figures in a 75-57 non-conference win over Culver-Stockton College Wednesday at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
 
Collin Parker led all scorers with 16 points, while Harrison Vickers added 15 and Carson Parker had a season-high 14 on 7-of-7 shooting. Marlon Allen added five points and a season-high 16 rebounds for Columbia, who had a 30-2 advantage in bench points and hit 12-of-13 (92.3 percent) from the free-throw line in the win.
 
Columbia improved to 3-0 with the win, while Culver-Stockton suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 1-1. The Cougars are off to a 3-0 start for the second-straight season.
 
Leading by one early in the first half, Columbia went on a 14-5 run to take a 25-15 advantage with 9:17 left. Isaiah Holden and Collin Parker each connected on three’s during the run for the Cougars, who at one point hit six-straight shots.
 
Columbia took its largest lead of the half (35-23) on a bucket by Davis with 2:38 to play before half. 
 
The Cougars limited Culver-Stockton to 35.7 percent (10-28) shooting from the field in the first half and took a 37-27 lead at the break. Collin Parker led Columbia with 11 points.
 
A 10-2 run early in the second half pushed the lead to 53-37 with 12:15 to play, and then a three-pointer by Collin Parker made it a 17-point contest at 56-39. Columbia put the game out of reach with an 8-2 run to take a 75-53 lead with 4:10 to play.
 
Tai Walters-Whitaker (14 points), Robert Fry II (13) and Quinten Blackburn (11) scored in double figures for Culver-Stockton, who shot 35.6 percent (21-59) from the field and hit just 5-of-18 from three-point range in the loss.
 
The Cougars return to action on Friday, Nov. 10 at Central Methodist University. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Fayette.
 
NOTES: Columbia leads the all-time series with Culver Stockton 17-2 … The Cougars have allowed 60 or less points in two of three games this season.
