Cougars Go 1-3 After Two Days of the Gulf Coast Invite

Gulf Shores, Ala. – The No. 6-ranked Columbia College softball team is 1-3 after two days of the Gulf Coast Invite in Gulf Shores, Ala.
 
Columbia is now 6-7 on the season.
 
Friday’s Results:
(RV) Texas A&M-Texarkana def. (6) Columbia, 2-0
(6) Columbia def. (20) Morningside (Iowa), 2-1
 
Saturday’s Results:
(11) Georgia Gwinnett def. (6) Columbia, 3-2
Brenau def, (6) Columbia, 8-6
 
Game 1 (Friday): (RV) Texas A&M-Texarkana def. (6) Columbia, 2-0
The Scoring:

  • T3 (TAMT) – The Eagles scored first on a single to right field (CC 0, TAMT 1)
  • T7 (TAMT) – TAMT scored an insurance run in their half of the seventh. (CC 0, TAMT 2)

 
Individual Leaders:

  • Columbia had three hits, as Taylor Barnes, Emily King, and Jacey Meyer had one base knock each.
  • Lexi Dickerson and Madison Ramsey combined to go 7.0 innings allowing five hits and striking out nine.

 
Game 2 (Friday): (6) Columbia def. (20) Morningside (Iowa), 2-1
The Scoring:

  • T6 (MC) – The Mustangs scored the first run of the game in the sixth inning on a single to center (CC 0, MC 1)
  • B6 (CC) – Columbia scored two in the sixth, both coming in on a Mackenzie Kasarda 2-run single to center. (CC 2, MC 1)

 
Individual Leaders:

  • Columbia had five players record a hit
  • Abigail Pringer and Taylor Barnes scored the two runs.
  • Ella Schouten earned win No. 4 on the season after tossing a complete-game allowing just one run on five hits and striking out ten.

 
Game 1 (Saturday): (11) Georgia Gwinnett def. (6) Columbia, 3-2
The Scoring:

  • B1 (GGC) – The Grizzlies scored first on a Cougar error. (CC 0, GGC 1)
  • T2 (CC) – The Cougars tied the game on an RBI double from Emily King (CC 1, GGC 1)
  • B5 (GGC) – Georgia Gwinnett regained the lead with a solo run in the fifth (CC 1, GGC 2)
  • T6 (CC) – Karolina Arbova tied the game with an RBI single, scoring Athena Wheeler (CC 2, GGC 2)
  • B7 (GGC) – A walk-off double gave the Grizzlies the win (CC 2, GGC 3)

 
Individual Leaders:

  • Athena Wheeler and Karolina Arbova had two hits each for Columbia.
  • Jodi Polly, Emily King, and Jacey Meyer had a hit each.
  • Madison Ramsey tossed five inning for the Cougars, allowing eight hits, allowing one earned run and striking out three.

 
Game 2 (Saturday): Brenau def. (6) Columbia, 8-6
The Scoring:

  • B1 (BU) – The Golden Tigers scored twice in the opening inning, both on RBI singles. (CC 0, BU 2)
  • T2 (CC) – Emily King hit a sac fly to center, scoring Jodie Polly (CC 1, BU 2)
  • B3 (BU) – Brenau added another on a double (CC 1, BU 3)
  • T4 (CC) – Taylor Barnes singled to center field, bringing home Avgustina Arbova (CC 2, BU 3)
  • B4 (BU) – The Golden Tigers answered back with three runs, two on a double (CC 2, BU 6)
  • T5 (CC) – An RBI triple from Polly and an RBI single from King got Columbia back within two runs (CC 4, BU 6)
  • B5 (BU) – The Golden Tigers scored two unearned runs (CC 4, BU 8)
  • T6 (CC) – Athena Wheeler doubled home Meyer (CC 5, BU 8)
  • T7 (CC) – King reached on an error, which brought in Skyler Kauble for the final run of the game. (CC 6, BU 8)

 
Individual Leaders:

  • The Cougars banged out 11 hits, led by Taylor Barnes, Jodi Polly, Emily King, and Avgustina Arbova who had two hits each.
  • King drove in a game-high three runs.

The Cougars finish out the Gulf Coast Invite with two games on Sunday against (RV) Webber International and Bethel. Game times are 9:00 AM and 11:15 AM.
