Cougars Fall to William Woods

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men’s basketball team came up short in a tight battle against William Woods (Mo.) this afternoon, 83-70. The Cougars fall to 6-7 (1-1 AMC), while the Owls improve to 5-7 (1-0 AMC).

Each team produced a 5-0 run three minutes into the contest, which was followed by another five consecutive points from the Owls increasing their lead to 12-7. William Woods would extend their lead to 12 points just past the halfway point of the first period, 30-18. Columbia came within five points heading into halftime, 42-37.

Coming out of the half, a foul committed by William Woods and a pair of free throws from the Cougars had the game knotted at 45 apiece. The Owls regained the lead and would have the advantage the rest of the game. The Cougars found themselves down six with 4:36 remaining in the game, but were not able to produce enough, falling to the Owls 83-70.

Key Moment:
A jump shot by Jared Crutcher sealed the deal for the Owls, extending their lead to eight with 4:13 remaining in the game.
