Cougars Fall to No. 11 Bethel

McKenzie, Tenn. – The (RV) Columbia College men’s soccer team came short in a matchup against No. 11-ranked Bethel (Tenn.) this evening, 5-2.

Things looked up for the Cougars in the first 15 minutes of action as Cooper Allen connected on a ball which found the back of the net, assisted by Luke Hynes, nearly two minutes into the contest.

In the 11th minute, an own goal was recorded which gave Columbia a 2-0 advantage.

Bethel notched a goal of their own in the 17th minute of play, 2-1.

The Wildcats added two more before heading into halftime, taking a 3-1 lead.

Bethel outshot Columbia 14 to three in the first half, while also taking five corner kicks.

The Cougars had six opportunities in the final half, but would not make way to the Wildcat lead.

Bethel connected on two more goals in the second half in the 50th and 69th minute to overtake Columbia, 5-2.

On the day, the Wildcats took 24 shots, while the Cougars attempted nine.

Alejandro Molto Munoz made eight saves in the contest.

The Cougars move to 8-4-4 on the season, and will resume conference action against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (Mo.) October 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with a senior day ceremony preceding.
