Cougars Fall in AMC Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 23-ranked Columbia College men’s basketball team dropped their American Midwest Conference (AMC) opener this evening, falling 80-70 to Central Baptist (Ark.).

The Cougars move to 6-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

The Mustangs led by as many as 19 with 2:33 remaining in the half, 39-20.

A pair of three-pointers and a layup for Columbia allowed the Cougars within 11 at the half, 39-28.

Collin Parker led the Cougars with 11 points in the first half, while also collecting four rebounds. Central Baptist edged Columbia, shooting 47 percent from the field, holding CC to 43 percent.

The Mustangs found themselves on a 7-0 run, taking advantage of points in the paint, taking a 56-34 lead with 13:56 remaining in the contest. A pair of back-to-back three’s allowed CBC to gain their largest lead of the game with just under 10 minutes to go, 68-40.

Columbia made a run for themselves producing an 8-0 run, and eventually taking the Central Baptist lead down to just nine.

It was not enough as the Cougars ultimately fell, 80-70.

Collin Parker and Trendon Tisdale each added 14 points for the Cougars, while Parker also led the way with eight boards. Isaiah Holden dished out seven assists on the night.

Columbia returns to action Dec. 2 as they host Williams Baptist (Ark). at 3:00 p.m.
