Cougars Extend Win-Streak to Four

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men’s basketball team recorded their fourth-straight double-digit win with a convincing 86-60 win against Williams Baptist (Ark.) on Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Cougars are now 12-10 this season and 6-2 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while the loss drops WBU to 11-7 and 4-4 in conference play. CC is now tied with William Woods (Mo.) for second-place in the AMC standings. 
 
The two teams matched each other point-for-point in the first five minutes of the game, as neither team led by more than two points. With the score tied at 6-6, Cole Gerken drained a three, sparking an 18-4 Cougar run to give them a 24-10 lead. CC would lead by double figures for the rest of the contest. The Cougars would keep the foot on the gas and extend their lead to a first-half high of 20 points (39-19) after a pair of Gerken free throws. Columbia would hold on to a 16-point advantage heading into the halftime locker room. 
 
CC continued to extend their lead in the second half, as the lead grew to 30 (86-56) with just under a minute left in the game. In the second half, the Cougars shot 43.6-percent (17-39) from the field and outrebounded the Eagles, 28-15. 
 
Key Moment:
The Cougars went on an 18-4 run in the first half, highlighted by three 3-point field goals from Kemryn Jenkins, giving CC a 24-10 lead. 
 
By the Numbers:
86.7 – The Cougars shot 86.7-percent (13-15) from the foul line.
18 – CC dished out 18 assists. 
63-28 – Columbia dominated the boards, led by ten Tony Burks and Beau Washer. 
3 – Tony Burks recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and ten rebounds.
