Cougars Celebrate Senior Day with Win

Women’s soccer seniors

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 5-ranked Columbia College women’s soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 10-0 win over University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Saturday at R. Marvin Owens Field.
 
Prior to the game, Columbia honored its eight seniors – Athena Dericotte, Abigail Logan-Ritz, Natalie Peng, Maddy Schrader, Grace Winegar, Juana Wulff, Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco, Emilia Zolesio Fernandez Blanco.
 
Columbia won its seventh-straight game to improve to 14-1-1 (7-0 AMC), while UHSP dropped its second-consecutive contest and fell to 2-8 (1-8 AMC). The Cougars finished AMC play undefeated for the fifth-straight year and have won 45-straight conference games.
 
Natalie Peng was involved in the first two goals as the Cougars jumped in front 2-0 in the opening 19 minutes of play. Emilia Zolesio Fernandez Blanco took a pass from Peng and blasted a shot from 20 yards out to make it 1-0 at 4:40, and then she found the back of the net from 25 yards out in the 19th minute to make it 2-0. 
 
Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco set up Isabella Govero’s goal in the 32nd minute, and then she found the back of the net in the 40th minute to make it 4-0. The Cougars outshot UHSP 27-0 in the first half. 
 
Macie Lucas snuck a shot past the UHSP goalkeeper and off the post for a goal in the 55th minute to make it 5-0. The goal for Lucas was her team-leading 12th of the year.
 
The Cougars added five more tallies in a span of 10 minutes to make it 10-0. Hannah Shylanski and Claire Markovich each found the net twice, while Delaynie Brown added a goal. 
 
Schneider (33:03) and Natalie Allison (56:57) combined to pick up the 12th shutout of the season in goal. The Cougars outshot UHSP 45-0 and put 22 shots on goal.
 
Columbia improved to 8-0 at home this season and extended their unbeaten streak to 19 games dating back to the 2022 season.
 
The top-seeded Cougars host No. 8 seed Williams Baptist in the first round of the 2023 AMC Tournament on Friday, November 3 at 1 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia is 10-0 all-time against UHSP … The goal for Shylanski was her first in a Columbia uniform  … The Cougars did not allow a goal in seven conference games.
