St. Louis, Mo. – For the sixth-consecutive year, the Columbia College Athletics Department has won the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Presidents’ Cup.

“I am beyond thrilled,” said James Arnold, Director of Athletics. “The work that goes into winning the President’s Cup is the ultimate measure of quality depth for athletic departments.”

The Presidents Cup is awarded to the institution accumulating the most points, determined by final regular-season standings or the final results from the AMC Championship (cross country, wrestling, golf, and track & field) in the 16 conference championship sports. Points are awarded in a manner that the Conference champion receives five times the number of teams sponsoring each sport, each subsequent team receives five fewer points than the team finishing above it (with the last place team earning five points). Should teams tie in the final standings or results, the total number of available points among the tied spots will be combined and then divided by the number of tied teams.

The Cougars held a 17.5-point advantage over Missouri Baptist, who finished one spot behind Columbia for the fourth-straight year.

Over the course of the season, the Cougars finished fourth or higher in every AMC Championship sport.

Men’s indoor track & field, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s outdoor track & field, baseball, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s basketball, women’s soccer, and softball each took home first-place points, while men’s cross country, women’s indoor track & field, women’s outdoor track & field, and volleyball received second-place points, and women’s cross country placed third at their championships and contributed 30 points.

“This year it took some clutch performances late from our spring sports to secure the Cup for another year,” said Arnold. “I’m so very proud of all our student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, sports information staff, and the entire Cougar community.”

With the win, the Cougars have passed William Woods for the most AMC President’s Cup among active schools. Former-AMC member McKendree (Ill.) leads all schools with 10 from 2001-2011.
