Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men’s basketball team was back in action tonight at home as they welcomed the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State University to the Arena of Southwell Complex. A back and forth start to the game would go the way of the Cougars as they rolled to a 73-47 win, improving to 16-4 overall and 6-1 in AMC play.

With the first wave of conference play completed, the Cougars now look to finish strong as they kick-off the second wave with road contests at Central Baptist College and Williams Baptist University next week.

The Hornets got the scoring started as Bennie Amos scored on a good jumper for the quick lead. The Cougars responded quickly with a made three-pointer from Marlon Allen. The lead was short lived as Bennie Amos converted again, this time from beyond the arc. More made baskets were traded until the Cougars scored back-to-back with a three from Trever Moore followed by a layup from Carson Parker.

From there, the Cougars would hold their lead as they took a nine point lead heading into halftime.

Marlon Allen was successful on two free throws just ten seconds into the second-half to widen the lead to double-digits at 35-24.

After a small 8-3 scoring run from HSSU, Columbia went on a massive 29-2 scoring run that put them ahead 67-36 with under seven minutes to play.

Tommy Hafer, Brock Davis, and Adam Sausele would score the final points for CC as they claimed the 73-47 win.

Collin Parker led all scorers with 22 points on 9-15 shooting, including 4-7 from the three-point line.

Isaiah Holden followed with nine points to go along with six assists. Both Marlon Allen and Trever Moore also contributed nine points.
